Production of clay or ceramic sculptures in the shapes of different animals is among the oldest art traditions of the prehistoric man.  In Islamic period of Iran, especially during the 6 to 8 centuries after Hijrah this artistic tradition continued despite of new Islamic ideology which for various reasons was opposed to the construction of such works. Current research is investigating some of these artworks in terms of manufacturing technology, style decoration, decorative motifs and their use. Obviously, study of different aspects of the mentioned factors as well as the reasons for the boom in the construction of the statues in particular ages can rise up the quantity and quality of our cognition of these special artistic works.  By the same token 24 samples of the statues of various domestic and foreign museums or collections selected and mentioned criteria were investigated.  According to research findings, animal statues of two species of mammals and birds often have specific applications and the most common way of making them was molding also the most common way of decorating were luster and enamel. Also, despite the extensive emulating of pre-Islamic clay sculptures; in the field of decorative styles especially decorative motifs and themes have major differences with them.  Such that decorative motifs often are in the form of plant or arabesque designs and some are inscriptions and less are geometrically. It is possible to form naturally in the body, particularly in the statue's feet which in the pre-Islamic Suitability not by the body. In addition to the above rectangular base location of the Islamic statues, as well as other significant differences in change instead of wider category and mouth is as for the lion statues at both before and after Islam, as a group, in common usage is important, at least from the Achaemenid period remaining examples of this tradition is However, in Islamic times often four categories and realistic in their natural state or less observed.
